I Am A Cider Drinker
Donning my Holland - World Cup 2014 T-shirt one last time, went into Leighton this afternoon for the Cider Festival at the Black Lion pub. Under a little canopy in the corner of the beer garden a friendly barmaid was dispensing 60 different ciders. I tried a strawberry one, a plum one, a very tasty lemon and lime one, and a very mellow sweet apple cider called Moonshine - 7.4% but, as the barmaid said, it didn't taste like it.
At the barbecue at the other end, a weird and wonderful selection of sausages was on sale, including zebra, kangaroo, llama, buffalo and zebra. It was just a shame that it was only practically possible, in terms of both finance and digestive capacity, to try a small few. I went for a very tasty camel one, a nice reindeer, cranberry and apple one, and one called Honey Bee that turned out to be quite hot and spicy. Good day out.
And so, cracked open my last couple of Amstels tonight for the third place play-off v Brazil. Brilliant performance by Holland, beautiful goals from Daley Blind (with a big assist from David Luiz!) and Wijnaldum allowing the Oranje to go home with their heads held high.
This actually feels like the end. I will watch tomorrow night and cheer Germany - the most attractive footballing side this tournament, perhaps together with Colombia - but, for me, it's like the show ends here. Going to be a bit lost for the next few days.

You and my son are the biggest Netherlands fans outside of Holland I'm sure. It's too bad they didn't go through to the final...but I rather like that a South American team is representing this side of the world. :)
