Girls Girls Girls

When you're feeling flat, there are few better tonics than an episode of Top of the Pops 1978 - especially one with a stellar cast like tonight's. Generation X and the Jam; a classic from Hot Chocolate; Andy Cameron's immortal Scotland 1978 World Cup song (we'll draw a veil over the team's performance at the tournament)...and Tina Charles, Debbie Harry and Kate Bush all making strong bids for my Pop Babe of '78 title *x*

It was nice to hear Brian and Michael's Matchstalk Men and Matchstalk Cats and Dogs again. Reminded me of when it was a hit and I, then aged six, thought the lyric was "And he takes his cushiony weights," until Eddie Large launched into singing a snatch of it on Little and Large and revealed it was "brush and he waits". Pop trivia fans : the children's chorus were none other than the St Winifred's School Choir, who of course had a #1 of their own two years later.

Watching this episode reminded me that I never did announce my Pop Babe of '77 winner. Sorry about that. For the record, Donna Summer lifted the crown, with Meri Wilson 2nd and Tina Charles 3rd.
