Still didn't feel up to alcohol in the clubhouse before the game this afternoon, so settled for a coke. Too full, again still from last night, for my usual burger and chips. A bacon roll was enough; hooray, this time I was offered onions on it! Hawks beat Eastbourne 2-1, and Eastbourne's goal was a penalty given in the sixth minute of time added on - no one could see where the ref got all that time from. No matter, we still won. During the closing minutes of normal time I spotted Louise from the girls' team standing in front of the stand and went down to join her; with her were Lisa and Chantelle, so we all stood and watched the end together.

My mother and I were guests at the Lee Players' production of Steel Magnolias tonight. On the drive there, John, remembering that Amanda from my office was in the play, referred to her as my 'girlfriend' and made jokes about me going to visit her backstage after the show...

The play was very well performed, funny in places and truly moving in others. Amanda was superb as Truvy, and all the cast kept up very authentic-sounding Southern belle accents. As the audience broke ranks for the interval, an old lady who was involved in some way backstage came up to me and remarked "You were enjoying the play, I see." I told her yes, I was, and she said she'd noticed me laughing loudly at the funny bits. "That's good," she said, "it gives them encouragement."

A chap from front-of-house brought me ma a tea and me a coffee and chatted to us through the break. When we'd established that I was a great fan of the theatre, the guy remarked that the society only has half a dozen male actors, who don't always make themselves available - hence the choice of a play with an all-women cast this time. He then asked me if I'd considered treading the boards! Desperation there, methinks. I reminded him there are plenty of good all-female plays...
