Summer Sunshine
Saturday Clapton Community played away to AVA FC. The game was on a school pitch and we'd been warned it was just a pitch in a field and there'd be no refreshments. I wandered around Kingsbury for a while, at one point finding an entrance to the school but barred gates and no sign of life nor a way to get to a pitch. Consulting Google Maps again I located the street the pitch was said to be on, saw some more CCFC fans walking along and joined them. One was Nathan, who I'd corresponded with on Twitter. The school turned out to have another site, and we were able to walk straight through the schoolyard to the football pitch. One of the fans observed that it was strange to be walking through a school playground again.
A good number of the CCFC hardcore were present. I was delighted to meet Annu, a lovely lady I knew from Twitter. There was a cricket match going on next to the football pitch; several of our number were distracted by the cricket at points during the afternoon. Some of us wondered if we could get a drink in the cricket pavilion, but no-one went over to try. Simon handed me a beer early in the game and did an off-licence run for a few of us at half time. We kept up a good selection of songs, including a version of Bruce Springsteen's Dancing In The Dark - "we love the Clapton, even when we're just playing in a school" (it's usually sung as 'park' at games played on park pitches). CCFC won an exciting game 2-1.
The train journey home to catch up on the day's Paralympic events and see the final episode of The Last Leg. It's been a fantastic Paralympics and The Last Leg has been top notch. I'm going to miss these Games now they're over.
