To the Coach House carvery this afternoon for this year's Chain Gang reunion. The food was first class, very reasonably priced and you got generous portions, served by a chef with a fine line in patter! When the subject of the London 2012 Olympics came up and I revealed I'd be going, saying "It's a once-in-a-lifetime event, the Olympic Games on your doorstep," David chipped in "Twice in a lifetime." He'd attended the 1948 Games at Wembley! David held us rapt with tales of how he saw the triumphs of Fanny Blankers-Koen and the Jamaican relay team live.

Everyone seemed in pretty good spirits and it was nice to catch up. Margaret from Portsmouth decided, again, to have a try at living my life for me, although this time it was something much more pleasant than nagging me to become a councillor. She urged me on to find a partner. "Wouldn't you like a partner?" Of course I replied yes and she leaped on that with "Well, go out and get one!" As if it were that simple - magari! I managed to get a word in edgeways long enough to say my first priority was to find a full time job, but didn't get to add the rest of my three-point plan ((2) move out of the parental home, (3) look for love). Margaret was only interested in the sound of her own voice. "Find yourself a partner," she repeated eternally, at one point adding "I'm open-minded, I don't care if it's a man or a woman." I have to admit, though, it was nice to be described as "a lovely, attractive young man." All three adjectives were rather flattering, I fear. David from the New Forest concluded the proceedings by offering to host next year's gathering, and I promised to mail him everyone's e-mail addresses and agreeable dates next May or June.

Got to go watch the RL Grand Final.
