Got home from work to find my copy of Maria Lawson's CD ('Gift Edition') has arrived from Amazon :)

Hawks v Weston-super-Mare tonight. As I arrived, outside the ground was one of the women's team carrying her kit bag; she must have known me from Portsmouth Ladies games as she knew my name and stopped me for a chat. She asked if I'd be coming to their friendly on Wednesday; I said sorry, I wouldn't be able to make it (not mentioning the reason : my budget won't stretch to friendlies) but I'd be at Bracknell for their first competitive game next weekend. She was happy enough with that.

In the clubhouse, tonight all we football customers were shoehorned into the smaller bar as the main one was booked for a private anniversary party. Although pay day yesterday only means I'm less overdrawn than I was before, I still felt justified in having a Magners, especially as with my season ticket holder's discount it was only £2.

The first half was nondescript and goalless; the most interesting happening was when 7 more of the women's team, all in tracksuit tops, shorts or tracksuit bottoms, and boots - they must have just been having a training session - came out of the tunnel and stood by the perimeter fence to watch. On my way to the tea hut at half time, as I passed the girls I said hello to them, but none of them knew me. As the second half kicked off, Trevor on the PA announced "May I remind everyone that standing in the area between the stand and the pitch is not allowed. That also applies to our ladies' team." Much amusement in the bit of the stand where I was sitting. As the girls reluctantly started to move, Trevor added "Come and sit in the stand, it's a lot nicer." They did, but nowhere near me.

Early in the second half Weston's repeated threats paid off and they scored. With Hawks not looking anything special, I grimly resigned myself to defeat, until, on the hour, Tony Taggart came on as sub. Straight away Havant found a new lease of life, Tony and Rocky Baptiste having shots saved in rapid succession, then on 70 minutes a speculative header from Rocky found the Weston defence all at sea and drifted into the net for the equaliser. Five minutes later Brett Poate rocketed in a cross that went in off the post for what proved to be the winner.

Back to the clubhouse after the final whistle for a celebratory Magners.

Among the crowd running to catch the ferry at Portsmouth, I came up alongside a woman who I was sure was Judie from the office. As I was trying to get a better view of her face to make certain, I got a rear view glance at one of her companions, who from what I could see looked very much like Pam. When the third lady in the group said something and finished her sentence "Pam", my suspicions were heightened. Sure enough, next thing I knew, Pam was looking at me and saying to the other two "Look who it is!" We said our hellos as we filed onto the ferry. As we set sail Pam told me how the other two had just taken her for a slap-up dinner in Gunwharf and now they were heading home. She introduced me to the third lady (not from our office) and we all talked all the way across.

"See you Monday," Judie said to me as we said goodbye at Gosport. "Wednesday," I corrected her - having just today come off four weeks of virtually working full time, being able to say that was so sweet.
