New Beginning (Mamba Seyra)
The last three weeks have mostly been quiet, I've just been hooked on the goings-on in I'm A Celebrity - Get Me Out Of Here, and TOTP 1988 of course.. The one piece of news is : I went for a job interview back in Gosport last Sunday, and I have the offer, starting in March, subject to references. So fingers crossed!
Friday was horrendous, had to work late from catching up after Monday off and from several of our team being off sick, then got stuck in a traffic jam coming home, was told to turn round by the cops and had to go round the houses to get home. Then that evening my beloved Nadine was voted out of the jungle, ending my interest in the show for another year. (What the actual feck have those 3 dullards done to deserve to be the finalists?)
Yesterday was the annual routine of tidying up and chucking out bits of paper no longer wanted, to create a tableful of space for my Christmas cards which have started to arrive.
A little jaunt down to London today to see Coventry United Ladies at Charlton. Met a Coventry club official in the bar, he knew who I was, presumably from Twitter. Both in the bar and near me in the stand, I met a lady named Jay who was general manager, a few players' relations and the official club Statto. My old pal Chelsea made a decent start to the game, but Charlton took an early lead, and then, heartbreakingly, Chelsea did her knee going for the ball, went down and had to be carried off.
Coventry didn't threaten for the rest of the first half, but came out for the second a team transformed. After the break both teams fought for every ball and it was a very exciting match for the neutrals. For me, it was the most I'd been into a club game for the past year and a half. Coventry's pressure was rewarded on 89 minutes when, after a couple of corners, Helen Dermody netted from a goalmouth scramble.
Although disappointed not to get the win, the Coventry contingent were relieved to have got a point away to a relegation rival. I went round to the dugout to ask about Chelsea, and one of the coaches said she'd gone inside and was on crutches. I asked him to say I'd been there asking after her and to give her my best wishes. I wished all the Coventry people Merry Christmas and went to wend my long way home.
