To King George playing fields in Portsmouth for the fireworks. The evening began with a DJ from Wave 105 doing warm-up and a quiz game for kids. He was followed by a Robbie Williams covers singer, but few people hung around the Wave stage for him as, just as he came on, the Lord Mayor lit the bonfire. It was a massive one and blazed beautifully. The fireworks were spectacular as always, a real riot of colour and sparkle, and the inclusion of some that whirled Catherine wheel style in the closing minutes was a nice touch. It was good to see loads of families there. What a shame we don't have a Guy Fawkes event in Gosport... Bacon butty from the mobile catering van very tasty, though £3 was a little on the steep side, and the only drinks offered were 500ml bottles for £1.50. What's wrong with cans?

On the way home I stopped at the hole in the wall at Abbey on Commercial Road. It spewed my card out with the message 'Your card issuer has declined your request'. I had no problems with the Alliance and Leicester one 100 yards away, but I immediately wondered if the Abbey machine had been tampered with and had a card cloning device installed. At that moment a bus to the Hard pulled up. On arrival at the Hard I found a quiet corner to take refuge in and phoned my bank to let them know. The lady said there'd been no Link withdrawals from my account except my own one from the Alliance and Leicester. I've just phoned them again now, and another lady says there's been no more withdrawals. I'll be calling one more time tomorrow afternoon just to make sure - fingers crossed.
